    Healthwatch Sheffield, in partnership with local groups SAYiT and Transactive, has carried out an investigation into the experiences of trans people using health and care services in the city.

    Writing our Annual Report has given us the opportunity to look back over some of the work we were doing before Covid-19 disrupted life for everyone, as well as reflect on the early impact of the pandemic for local people.

    The Health Team at Zest work closely with Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) women and had been made aware of a number of issues in relation to how and why the women access GPs and other health services.

    City of Sanctuary Sheffield used our Speak Up grant to run two health events for asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield in May 2018, to listen to their experiences of local health services.

    Shipshape is a community health organisation based in Sharrow. They offer a range of one-to-one and group health and wellbeing services. Shipshape received a grant to gather the views and experiences from people who are supported by their services.

    Disability Awareness with Sport (DAWS) runs DAWS Community Gym in Hackentorpe. They support people with disabilities to improve their health and wellbeing, and wanted to better understand their clients’ experiences of health services.

    Foxhill Forum used their #SpeakUp Small Grant to engage with their community at Foxhill and Parsons Cross and ask about their experience of accessing health and social care provision.

    The Sheffield Chinese Community Centre used their #SpeakUp grant to conduct surveys, interviews, workshops and a focus group meeting with Chinese members to obtain feedback about their experiences and views on local health and social services.

    The Link Community is a community hub based in South East Sheffield. They run a nearly new shop and delivers other activities and services to support local people. They used their #SpeakUp grant to talk to local residents about their experiences.

    2017-18 was the first year of our #SpeakUp small grants scheme. We awarded funding to 11 local groups, enabling them to work with their communities to talk about health and social care services. Here we summarise the findings of these reports.

    Edukation Solutions is an organisation that offers courses to those who have English as a second language. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to consult with the BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) community about their views on health care

    Reach South Sheffield is a community regeneration organisation working with local people in the communities of Gleadless Valley, Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe. They heard from parents about their experiences of accessing health services.

    Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group provides information and support for people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia, their families and carers.
    They used their #SpeakUp Grant to create a film documenting the ‘Missing Millions’ event.

    South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association (SYEDA) helps people with eating disorders and their supporters. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to explore a voice initiative and to consider the new eating disorders pathway in Sheffield.

    Foxhill Forum is a community organisation based in North East Sheffield. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to support local pople to take photos using the theme of health and wellbeing and to discuss their own experiences.

    SAYiT provides support for young people aged 12-25 years old who identify as LGBT+ or affected by HIV. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to explore young people’s experiences of sex and relationships, health and puberty advice and education.

    City of Sanctuary Sheffield provide information, advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers. They used their #SpeakUp grant to explore what kinds of health and wellbeing advice and activities would help asylum seekers and refugees.

    Sheffield Mencap & Gateway provides support to adults and children with learning disabilities and their families and carers. They wanted to explore the awareness of and experiences of people with learning disabilities regarding Annual Health Checks.
