#SpeakUp small grants 2018-19 - City of Sanctuary Sheffield

City of Sanctuary Sheffield provide information, advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers. They used their #SpeakUp grant to explore what kinds of health and wellbeing advice and activities would help asylum seekers and refugees.

Our #SpeakUp small grants scheme awards funding to local community, voluntary, or not-for-profit groups, enabling them to engage with their communities about what matters to them.

Recommendations from the report:

  • Run regular workshops on how to access the NHS, especially for people new to the UK
  • Hold more healthy living days with different information and activities - to see what works and what people find most useful
  • Find resources to provide regular yoga, dance, walking and other physical activities to promote health and wellbeing
  • Publicise the ‘Asylum Journey’ to health providers and the health-related voluntary sector. The website ‘the Asylum Journey’ includes information about health services and free wellbeing and other activities for asylum seekers and refugees in the city.
