#SpeakUp small grants 2018-19 - South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association

South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association (SYEDA) helps people with eating disorders and their supporters. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to explore a voice initiative and to consider the new eating disorders pathway in Sheffield.

Our #SpeakUp small grants scheme awards funding to local community, voluntary, or not-for-profit groups, enabling them to engage with their communities about what matters to them.

Recommendations from the report

SYEDA made in depth recommendations about the following themes:

  • The impact of mental health comorbidities on people with an eating disorder
  • The unsuitability of using Body Mass Index (BMI) as a diagnostic tool
  • People's experiences of treatment and the attitudes of staff
  • Increasing participation in SYEDA Voice to allow service users a platform
