#SpeakUp small grants 2018-19 - Sheffield Mencap & Gateway
Sheffield Mencap & Gateway provides support to adults and children with learning disabilities and their families and carers. They wanted to explore the awareness of and experiences of people with learning disabilities regarding Annual Health Checks.
Our #SpeakUp small grants scheme awards funding to local community, voluntary, or not-for-profit groups, enabling them to engage with their communities about what matters to them.
Recommendations from the report:
- Improve the consistency of AHC service throughout the city, to ensure equal opportunities for all
- Provide more support for individuals who are known to have less support at home, to access primary health care
- Conduct further research that directly targets the DNAs (Did Not Attends) of AHCs, or gather feedback directly from these individuals to identify why they are not attending their AHCs
