VCF Forum October 2016 - 'Sustainability and Transformation Partnership'

On 13 October, people representing voluntary, community and faith sector organisations across the City met for a Health and Social Care Forum meeting run by Healthwatch Sheffield.

Our VCF (Voluntary, Community, and Faith sector) Forums bring together decision makers, members of the public, and those working across voluntary and statutory organisations. We discuss topics related to the health & wellbeing of local people. Find out more here.

This meeting started with a discussion around the key issues facing organisations around health and social care. The main issues faced by the sector included:

  • resources and how organisations can help people when their budgets continue to be cut
  • the lack of joined up health and social care provision
  • social cohesion and the isolation of certain communities
  • lack of awareness of services available and people’s rights
  • Early years  and children’s health and wellbeing
  • support for those with mental health issues.

The main focus of the event was a presentation by Helen Stevens, Associate Director of Communications & Engagement at Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group,  on the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw. STPs are being developed across the country as part of a update to the national plan called The NHS Five Year Forward View.

What next?

The CCG are working on firm proposals that they plan to share in the New Year. It has also been agreed that Healthwatch and other voluntary sector organisations will have a key role in this area.

If you have any comments on the STP, you are welcome to contact Helen directly by email.

We will keep you updated on what happens going forward.
