Your Voice Counts: Experiences of trans and non-binary people using GP services in Shefffield
At Healthwatch Sheffield we speak to a wide range of people living in the city about their experiences of accessing health and social care, and what would help to improve their health and wellbeing.
We partnered with SAYiT, a Sheffield charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people, to find out about more trans and non-binary people's experiences of GP services, particularly around administration, and access to both general and specialist care.
What did we find?
While there were positive findings regarding general GP care, challenges remain particularly around accessing specialist care, attitudes of practice staff and administrative processes. These centred around:
- Shared care agreements
- Referrals
- Respect and confidence in healthcare professionals
- Updating personal details on NHS records
- Preferred pronouns
