#SpeakUp small grants 2018-19 - Family Voice Sheffield
Family Voice Sheffield run classes that aim to build the confidence of mums in the Nether Edge, Lowfield and Sharrow areas of Sheffield. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to hear from women about their experiences of GPs, dentists and pharmacies.
Our #SpeakUp small grants scheme awards funding to local community, voluntary, or not-for-profit groups, enabling them to engage with their communities about what matters to them.
Recommendations from the report
Family Voice Sheffield made a number of recommendations about GPs, dentists, and pharmacies. Some of the key themes were around:
- Employing staff who speak community languages, and providing information in community languages
- Encouraging staff to talk to women about their wider lifestyle and its impact on their health
- Providing information about alternative sources of advice, like pharmacy services, to reduce the burden on GPs
