Speak Up grants are back! A special focus on children and young people

We are delighted to announce that we are launching a new round of the Speak Up small grants scheme this year. Find out how to apply below.

This year, we are focussing on projects working with children and young people aged 0 – 19.

We believe the voices of younger people in Sheffield often go unheard and we want to shine a special light on the issues that are important to them.

Could you work with us?

How does the grants scheme work?

We are offering 4 grants of £1500 each. These will be given to voluntary or community sector groups who want to carry out a project helping children and young people to speak up about their experiences of health and care in Sheffield.

Your organisation does not have to work with children and young people exclusively – but the project you plan should focus on this age group.

Grants will be awarded near the start of July, so you can start running events and activities through the summer holidays (activities should be completed by Sunday 5 October).

The grant can be used in any way which supports you to hear from people – including food, venue hire, activities, staff time. We welcome creative ideas!

Visit our Speak Up page to find out more about the projects we've funded in the past.

Apply by 9am on Monday 23 June

What support will you get?

The project will be yours – and will be shaped by the issues that are important to the children and young people you work with.

However, we’ll be on hand to offer support – for example with planning, supporting your events on the day, providing information resources, or writing and sharing a report with your findings.

How will these projects make a difference?

We believe sharing the views and experiences of real people can make a difference to health and care services locally.

We want to create opportunities for young people to share their experiences directly with health and care decision makers. Our aim for this round of Speak Up grants is to help to set up at least one event per project where this can happen.

We will work with you to make sure the voices of the children and young people you support will be heard.

How do you apply?

Applications are open until 9am on Monday 23 June 2025.
