What matters to us? Children and young people's art project

In February 2024, we ran a children and young people's art project where people aged 18 and under could submit drawings, paintings and collages to show us what is important to them. Take a look at the pictures, and find out what matters to young people in Sheffield.

As part of this project we ran an online campaign as well as delivering two free arts and crafts sessions for families - one at The Circle with refugee and asylum seeking families, and one at Manor Library open to the wider public.

Altogether we received 43 brilliant pictures from children and young people aged 3 - 18 years old.

What matters to children and young people in Sheffield?

We looked at what people included in their pictures, and put together some key themes that were important to the children and young people involved. Many of these are things we know to be important to mental health in a broader sense:

  • Hobbies
  • Nature and the outdoors
  • Family, friends and pets
  • Food and drink
  • Cultural identity
  • Home
  • School
  • Values and behaviours

Based on the things that were important to children and young people, we've also included a list of resources that we hope will be helpful to families - places where they can find free and low-cost activities they enjoy, and where to get information and support.
